Senseonics rallies as CGM data shows promise against rivals, as reported by Dulan Lokuwithana for SeekingAlpha.com, 4 June 2021.

Senseonics Holdings (SENS +42.4%) is extending the post-market gains today with a sharp rise in reaction to the impressive data demonstrated by its next-gen Eversense glucose monitoring system (CGM) System for up to 180 days in a prospective trial.

Across 49,000 paired points, the overall mean absolute relative difference (MARD) against reference value was 9.1% for the primary sensor, the company said comparing that with 8.5% for the SBA sensor over 12,000 paired points.  MARD is considered to be the most popular method of measuring the accuracy of a glucose monitor. In terms of MARD, Senseonics’ monitor appears to perform neck and neck against rivals.

G6, the latest iteration of glucose monitors from Dexcom (DXCM +2.6%) has an overall MARD of 9.0, according to the Dexcom website.  Meanwhile, FreeStyle Libre 2 from Abbott (ABT -0.2%) has a combined MARD value of 9.3% (9.2% for adults and 9.7% for pediatrics), according to the website Diabetes Self Management.

How Brain Implants Will Revolutionize Learning was reported by Loukia Papadopoulos for InterestingEngineering.com, 3 June 2021. WOW, this is amazing … talk about reducing the burden of diabetes!!!  “AI experts are saying learning may be obsolete in 20 years”

Artificial intelligence (AI) experts are suggesting that learning may become obsolete in 20 years due to brain implants.

This isn’t straight out of a sci-fi film, it’s an actual possibility. For instance, a team from the University of Pennsylvania’s Computational Memory Lab has already successfully enhanced people’s memory capabilities by stimulating brain regions using electrodes.

And then there’s Elon Musk’s Neuralink. The company hopes to one day merge computers with the human brain, a mighty achievement.

The firm already released a video that appeared to show a nine-year-old monkey playing a game of Pong using his mind. He did this with the use of the N1 chip that sees “threads” in the brain connected to the 4mm chip called the N1.  The demonstration made headlines around the world and made us realize we may be closer to having useful brain implants than ever.
