This was such an honor for us at Loop and Learn to host Dr. Francine Kaufman, world-renowned pediatric endocrinologist, industry leader, philanthropist!  Dr. Kaufman is a currently the Chief Medical Officer for Senseonics, makers of the first and only implantable CGM.

Before joining Medtronic Diabetes in 2009 as CMO and VP of global medical affairs, Kaufman was already a distinguished leader in the world of diabetes. She is a former president of the American Diabetes Association who was consistently named one of the Best Doctors in America. When Dr. Kaufman joined Medtronic Diabetes back in 2009, she predicted that by the time she’d retire, there would be an FDA-approved closed-loop system on the market. SHE WAS RIGHT!  She announced her retirement from Medtronic at the end of 2018, with the introduction of the 670G Hybrid Closed Loop system.

Prior to joining industry, she worked for more than 40 years as a pediatric endocrinologist in Los Angeles, CA and also served as director of the Comprehensive Childhood Diabetes Center, and head of the Center for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. She is known for her leading work as a clinician and researcher, for making a global impact on diabetes care in developing countries.

After “retiring” from Medtronics … she didn’t retire!

She joined the executive leadership team at Senseonics, as Chief Medical Officer, where she is instrumental in helping drive forward their innovation platform, Eversense, the FIRST and ONLY implantable CGM. “Fran is one of the world’s leading endocrinologists and her deep understanding of the global medical, research, and clinical diabetes community is coupled with her track record of applying novel technologies to advance diabetes care for patients and her extreme passion for patient care and interaction.“ ~ Tim Goodnow, President and CEO of Senseonics
