National Dog Day celebrates all dogs, mixed breed and pure.
Please send a prayer for Bonnie’s Sammy Dogis, Jr., a very sweet and very smart 10lb miniature pinscher, who has moved on to the Rainbow Bridge but remains in our hearts.
According to Bonnie, Sammy (or SDJ, for short), “was my best friend and watched over me quite closely. He was never formally trained but had the ability to sense out my low blood sugars as I slept. Somehow, he just knew. Sammy would place his muzzle under my arm and flip it until I woke up. He was at my side for 13 years.
“In his senior years Sammy developed diabetes and went blind. I became his diabetic alert human! We were lucky to have one another.
“Frankly, Sammy was truly a lifesaver. His extraordinary instincts and skills helped me manage and cope with not only my diabetes challenges, but emergencies too. One time, SDJ earned his stripes, again, as my 4-star general when he sought help for me following a fall, which later required hip replacement surgery.
Love is in the air!
Slacking off?
Happy National Dog Day! What a choice! My “greenie” or a nap? Why choose?
Mom taught me the importance of stopping to smell the flowers!
SDJ looks like a great dog. He reminds me our wonderful dogs – now passed – Addie the adventure dog and Samantha – Sammie Dog – Phillips.
Rick, would you like to share a story or two and some pix of Addie and Samantha?
