Dexcom is shipping their new Dexcom G5 transmitters along with the software to update your current G4 receiver.
Want to learn a little bit more about it and some opinions? I’ve been curious … and at this point, I think I’ll just wait for the G6. But you should at least see what all the fuss is about, in case you want to jump onboard.
As reported by Diatribe (www.diatribe.org) by Adam Brown and Kelly Close … an extremely in-depth review of the G5, pluses and minuses. http://tinyurl.com/oatkbj8
And then, by Mike Hoskins of DiabetesMine: Why I Won’t Be Changing to Dexcom G5 Anytime Soon. I’ll be meeting Mike next week … and I’ve known his mom (also a T1) for many years. http://tinyurl.com/oba46bn
Dexcom’s sensors work as advertised, but the companies customer service is one of the worst I’ve ever had to deal with. My mother was prescribed a Dexocom G5 in August of 2018. The company rep, who called to confirm everything, said she qualified for the G6, and insurance would cover, at least part, of the cost. She received her sensors, transmitter, and receiver in September. Our first reorder of sensors, online, went without a hitch. The same for the next, with two(2) boxes of sensors being ordered. Then in December 2018 everything changed. I could not order online, when I finally got someone on the phone, after 3 attempts, no call backs even though they were supposed to, the order took 3 weeks to arrive. Apparently billing doesn’t talk to shipping, nor to the insurance companies. Now, I cannot order online at all, and, I surmise, customer reps have all been shipped to India(or the Philippines, or somewhere off shore). I have a very hard time understanding Mary, or Brad when trying to order my mom’s supplies. Multiple emails about my inability to order online have generated replies, and nothing else. Nothing has changed, online ordering doesn’t work, and no one seems to want to fix it. I’m done with Dexcom. They are not the only CGM on the market. I’ll see if my mom’s doctor can prescribe a different choice, Bayer perhaps.
Jay, I think we are all feeling very frustrated with the changes at Dexcom and their disregard for being a patient centric company that they used to be … very sad!
